Learning communities extend your learning by connecting a section of UNIV 101 to a second course or by focusing your learning through a theme. By enrolling in a learning community, you will explore an interesting topic with other new students in multiple contexts.

Themed Learning Community

  • +Special sections of UNIV 101 that explore the university through a particular theme (sports, leadership, volunteering, well-being, global culture, and creativity)

  • +Get to know other new students who share your passion for the course’s theme

  • +Have memorable experiences, plan for academic and personal wellness, and develop strategies to be successful at KU

  • +2-credit-hour experience for incoming freshman students

Linked Course Learning Community

  • +Connects a section of UNIV 101 to a second course that satisfies a KU Core requirement

  • +Hone your skills while exploring the university through the linked course’s topic (biology, psychology, sociology, and more)

  • +Get to know other new students in your seminar course who will also be in the same linked course—provides support for navigating larger courses

  • +Have memorable experiences, plan for academic and personal wellness, and develop strategies to be successful at KU

  • +5-credit-hour experience for incoming freshman students
