Biography

Meet the instructor...

When I was a Freshman… (What was your freshman experience like?)

My first year of college was a huge adjustment. I went from a small town of about 3,000 people to a university that felt enormous, and honestly, it was overwhelming at first. Everything was new—classes, people, places—but I also really loved that. I could walk almost everywhere, and lived near a the on-campus movie theater with student discount nights. Little routines like that helped the big, intimidating campus start to feel like home.

Pro-Tip for Success at KU

Meet your instructors! They might seem busy, but most professors, grad students, and researchers love talking about what they do and how they got there.

Ask questions and share your story! Don’t be afraid to ask about the class, your instructor’s research, or share what you’re interested in—you might be surprised by the connections you make.

Go to campus events! This is a rare chance to live in a walkable, easy-to-explore community, so make the most of it!

Do you have photos or mementos in your office that have a special story?

My office is a cozy space, and yes, there’s always candy. I’m an archaeologist who studies animal bones, so you’ll also see a pretty interesting (and slightly unusual) collection of bones that I’ve collected or been gifted over the years.
