Meet the Instructor....

What’s your pro-tip for success at KU?

Everyone finds college life difficult or challenging at some point in their undergraduate career. Luckily, KU has many resources to help get you through those times. From the many student groups that can help you find community, to places like the Wingspan that can help with academic challenges, to the great counseling, career, and advising sources available to you. Make sure to take advantage of what KU has to offer whenever you need a little extra help.

What was the specific moment or book that made you realize, "I want to study this forever"?

When I was an undergraduate student, I read “The Sufis” by Idris Shah. That was it, I was hooked. I decided I would study about religion and specifically about Muslim mystics.

What is one topic that, if a student mentions it, you will accidentally talk about for 20 minutes?

Only one topic? There are many: religion (of course), my children, gardening, baking, and my favorite shows to stream.

Are you open to talking about things besides classwork, like career advice, life in Lawrence, or campus hobbies?

Of course!  I really enjoy making personal connections with my students.
