What’s your pro-tip for success at KU?
Find your person. This is someone who can help you navigate KU and connect you with resources and helpful people.
When I was a Freshman…
I had a very challenging time. I felt so out of place because I was brown, didn't have money, and was the first in my family to go to college. It took me a while to make friends, but getting involved in clubs and pushing myself to talk to new people helped me feel more at ease and find the people who would be my lifelong friends.
Do you have photos or mementos in your office that have a special story?
My diploma frame means a lot to me. As a low-income and first-generation student, earning my bachelor's degree meant the world to my parents. They saved up my senior year just to buy me a frame with the KU seal on it, which was not cheap. This is always a reminder of how important that day was to my whole family, not just to myself.
Do you have any furry family members, or are you a plant parent?
I have a dog named Sasquatch (aka Squatch, Squatchy, or Chuachy). He is a giant white hound mix who loves to lounge around and howl when the firetrucks drive by with their sirens on. Luckily, I'm a much better pet parent than I am a plant parent. Most of my plants don't make it. :)
