Biography

I hail from the mountains of western Carolina (my family hop-scotched between North and South Carolina during most of my formative years).  My undergraduate career was somewhat non-traditional; you could say I “collected” colleges before finding a home at Western North Carolina University where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Literature with a double minor in History and Creative Writing.  I made my way to Kansas to work on a Master’s degree in Literary Theory and began to narrow my areas of interest to oral traditions, trauma theory, Southern Grit lit, and environmental writing.

While progressing through my coursework, I also taught for the English Department and then worked full time as an Academic Advisor for the School of the Arts.  These experiences reinforced time and again my deep commitment to learning, teaching, and supporting students which eventually led me to my current position with Academic Programs and Experiential Learning.  I’m excited to grow with first-year programs and the new Jayhawks we serve.
